3rd Case
of Mad Cow Disease in Japan
|
BSE!
Mad cow disease has struck Asia too! The continent
so far had been spared the disease outbreak ravaging
Europe. However, recent reports from Japan give definitive
evidence for the presence of BSE. The third definitively
positive case of BSE from Japan has been confirmed.

The
results were recently announced by Japan's Health Ministry.
A Holstein cow slaughtered on a farm near Tokyo was found
to be positive for mad cow disease. The test was repeated
twice.
Japan
has now officially banned the use of meat and bone meal
as cattle feed. Intensive efforts are on to extensively
screen slaughtered beef before they are herded off to the
market. The third case of BSE has been detected barely less
than ten days since the second case of BSE was detected
in the northernmost island of Hokkaido.
