Lilluputian
lizard discovered!

The
smallest lizard in the world has just been sighted
by an enterprising biologist from Penn State University.

Blair
Hedges, the sharp eyed scientist who four years ago spotted
the world's smallest frog has been lucky second time round.
The lizard which measures 16 millimetres from tail to nose
has been christened as Sphaeodactylus ariasae and was found
on the island of Beata, which forms a part of the Jargua
National Park in the Dominician Republic.
The
lizard world has as many as 23 000 different species. Yet,
it is this miniature that stands tall at the number one
position in nature's downsizing plan of action. Blair and
colleagues plan to publish their interesting findings complete
with photo in the December's issue of the Caribbean Journal
of Science.
