EU plans
toxicity tests of 30 000 chemicals on 30 million animals
There
are methods and methods of testing the toxicity of chemicals
that do not involve the use of animals and very, very safe.
Why then, is the European Union all geared to test toxicity
of chemicals, whose toxicity is known on animals. One can
only stand watching in baffled horror. In an alarming new
move, the European Union which represents the combined strength
of all the countries of Europe has decided to go in for
a drastic toxicity testing plan on animals.
The
EU plans to test out the chemicals found in plastic, upholstery
and other substances responsible for birth defects, learning
disabilities and other health problems, or damage to the
environment. According to Wendy Higgins, Campaigns Director
of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV).
"The tests are barbaric and would cause untold suffering
at a magnitude to gruesome to fathom to the animals".
Among the laboratory animals to be tested are dogs, cats,
monkeys, hamsters, birds, fish, mice, rats and guinea pigs.
