Cooking!
Yes! The good, old fashioned way. It can be loads
of fun. What you need is buckets full of hours. In
this time starved world where all the clocks run on
time, most of us are still chasing after the clock
- falling short on time.
Not
enough time to talk. Not enough time to exercise.
Not enough time to
|
|
read
the papers, to watch TV, to see a movie, to catch up with
work, to talk to friends....not enough time for every
one of life's memorable moments.
Why!
On a normal day's workout, you barely have the time to
gobble a couple of sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and
dinner before you retire for the night - dog tired.
If
that's a normal scenario in your universe, then isn't
it about time you did something about it.
Take
time off. Talk to everyone in your family - may be your
neighbourhood too! Tell them that this Sunday after church
- if you still go to one that is, everyone's invited to
celebrate in a cooking adventure.
Eating
may be the world's favourite pastime but then the fine art
of cooking a good meal comes in an altogether different
realm of experience and does one say - aesthetics?
Most
times and in most families, even in these modern times,
cooking and housekeeping is a thankless never ending job
for millions of housewives round the world.
This
weekend, discover and explore the salubrious warmth of a
completely vegetarian meal - from one table end to another.
Have
a kitchen table meeting. However, small your kitchen may
be - let everyone walk into the kitchen, you'll be amazed
at how even tiny kitchens can accommodate such a large number
of people.
To get
started, don't go looking into your fridge for the diced
and chopped vegetables. Go to the supermarket. You can take
your pets along.
Go walking...the
entire family...if it's not too cold or snowing heavily.
Even if there's a glimmer of a sun hiding behind some clouds,
put on your walking shoes and get trotting.
Saunter
around slowly. Experience the joy of seeing fresh and vegetables,
fruits and nuts. Then, mentally express your gratitude to
the creator for making such a diverse range of living creatures
who don't shriek out in pain when the sacrificial knife
cuts them. Just imagine! If the vegetables cried out in
pain, what would you do? Talk. Laugh. Share some jokes as
you walk back or cycle back with your shopping bags full.
Now,
get down to cooking. Share all the chores. Give everyone
a task to do. Make sure that no one has anything to eat
till cooking is done.
Make
sure your pets are lounging or lazing comfortably in one
corner of the room - out of the way of all your kitchen
ware - somewhere close to the door that leads to another
room or corridor.
You
don't want your pet's fur to get mixed up with all the salads,
soups and doughs being prepared, do you?
