Ethiopia is going to sure be a major tourist hot
spot in the coming year. The remains of animals
that roamed on earth 27 million years ago have just
been found.
The remains of the elephant's ancestor and 6 new
species of prehistoric mammals have just been discovered.
A 2600 kg rhinoceros like Using satellite imagery,
the researchers zoomed into sedimentary deposits
- estimated to be 30 million years old. Digging
into those spots unearthed the fossils spread over
70 spots - 6600 feet above sea level.

Kapelman, a palaeontologist at the University of Texas
was the team leader for this expedition
He said the team located the fossils in about 70 sites
spread over several square kilometres of farm country
about 6,600 feet above sea level. The team used satellite
imagery to locate sedimentary deposits covering volcanic
basalt that researchers knew to be about 30 million years
old.
