9 Ways to stop cat litter from crash landing on your cat's fur

Written by Dr.Laxmi Iyer

1. Make sure the litter place mats are always in place
Litter mats are an easy way to ensure that litter grains don't stick to your cat's paws.

2. Add a pinch of neem powder to your cat's cat litter
This is a useful trick. Neem powder is bitter and the bitter taste of neem will ensure that even the most curious kitten in your family will avoid the instinct to eat.

3.Observe
Watch your cats discreetly from another room. See if any of them have developed the obnoxious habit.

4. Clean the litter box regularly
A single most useful commandment to ensure that your cats use the litter box regularly is to keep it clean.

5. Brush your cat regularly
Make sure that no specks of litter particles get stuck to your cat's fur by grooming your cats regularly.

6. Wash and dust your cat's bedding regularly
The importance of this procedure cannot be over emphasized. Make this simple routine a habit - just like how you wash your clothes regularly

7. Make sure that your cats do not suffer from vitamin and mineral deficiencies
This point cannot be over stressed. If your cats have a calcium phosphorous deficiency then the chances of them eating litter material is high. Consult with your vet and take immediate action. Put them on a vitamin mineral supplement.

8. Be warned about pica
Pica is a mineral deficiency disorder that some breeds like the Persian and Himalayan are especially vulnerable to. In this disease cats and other animals have a habit of eating non food material. The habit of eating non food material may persist even after correction of the mineral deficiency.

9. Don't use clumping clay cat litter if you have kittens
Kittens have a habit of experimenting by eating with non food materials. You need to watch out if you are using clumping clay. It could be very dangerous. Clumping clay litter should not be used in kittens below the age of 3 months.

If you observe your cats eating clay cat litter, you may have to just go out and take a drastic decision like changing your cat litter material.
