EAZA gets a new Chairman

For EAZA, the third week of September has been very eventful. Dr. Leobert de Boer was appointed as the new chairman of EAZA at the AGM of EAZA in Leipzig on 21 September 2003. He is director of Apenheul Primate Park in the Netherlands and is also chairman of the Dutch Zoo Federation(NVD).

On 17 th September 2003, the 20th EAZA Annual Conference hosted by Leipzig Zoo was declared open. The first day was marked by a huge number of fundraising awards being handed over to participating zoos - as many as 19. Colchester Zoo and Paradise Wildlife Park received Platinum awards for their excellent fund raising efforts to collect over € 15,000. The awards were given by Sarah Christie, initiator of the EAZA Tiger Campaign.
