Audubon Nature Institute Clones World's First Wild Carnivore

The Audobon Nature Institute and Louisiana State University have been working on breakthroughs of a different kind in the past few months. On August 6 2003, the world's first cloned wild cat was born. Named Ditteaux, he was created from African wildcat Jazz.

Research on cloning of endangered wildcats at the Centre is being led by Dr. C. Earle Pope and colleagues. In another recent success, the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species announced the birth of another successfully cloned wildcat. The African serval cat born on October 1st was named Kruger.
