New strain of yeast growing at high temperature discovered
A
new strain of yeast has been discovered and isolated. The
strain which has been called Y94T has been found to be capable
of growth at high temperature. The yeast was isolated from
soil in Korea. Researchers have classified the yeast as belonging
to the genus Candida.
Shin
et al at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology
have observed that a maximum growth temperature of 50-51 degrees
C, along with a unique 26S rDNA partial sequence separates
this strain from other ascomycetous yeasts. The investigators
have classified the strain as a novel species and given the
strain the name Candida thermophila sp. Nov.
