Call
for Consultation from Nuffield Council on Bioethics

On
3rd October 2003, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics
had a major discussion and consultation session on research
that involves the use of animals.
Those interested in participating in discussions and
giving their comments and views may contact the Centre.
The consultation paper can be viewed at www.nuffieldbioethics.org/animal
research. The last date for sending in your comments
is 15th December 2003.

In
their experiment, concentrated sunlight is collected and then
transmitted into the operating theater via a flexible, 20
metre long high-transmission optical fiber with a numerical
aperture of 0.66.
The
fibre supplies a power density of several watts per mm2 -
a power density that is on par with surgical lasers.
