Reports of pet battering from Edinburgh.

Battered children! Battered women and now battered pets! Certain kinds of non accidental injury seen in pets appear to be caused due to battering.
This was the conclusion drawn by two veterinarians at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies, University of Edinburgh. In their study, Munro and Thrushfield examined the incidence, of non-accidental injury (NAI) to pets. To remove the likelihood of biases in recording their observations, they used an anonymous questionnaire.

As many as 1000 small animal practitioners in U.K. participated in the study. The result of this preliminary study is rather alarming! As many as 91.3 per cent of the 404 veterinarians who responded to the questionnaire reported an incidence of non accidental injury, of which a larger percentage was reported in dogs than in cats.
